ENGINEER’S REPORT.

At Monday’s meeting of the Piako County Council the engineer, Mr W. J. Gibbs - , submitted ithe following report:— Tauhei roads scheme: A meeting of ratepayers was held in the Tauhei hall to decide upon a metalling scheme. Most of the dangerous holes on this road have been filled in with ti-tree. Gibbs’s hill, Motumaoho: The worst portion of this hill has been repaired with metal and shingle, also dangerous holes filled in near county boundary on main road. Repairs with shingle were carried out on main road near Piako and Morrinsville. Kurunul road: About six chains of this road have been metalled and shingled, also some repairs with shingle and gravel were carried out over the worst portions. In view, of the proposed metalling on the main road a start should he made to prepare for the supply of metal from Hinson’s quarry near Harbottle’s road. Tahuna road through Mangafeparu is now very rough, and requires grading up as early as possible this season. Morrinsville-Kiwitahl road: Some repairs in shingle have been carried out on this road, and a further 50 yards of shingle Is yet required. Walton Station road: A small section of about seven chains of this' road has been metalled; most of the Walton roads have dried up a good deal since the spell of bad weather, but are very rough. Metal is arriving again for the Walton roads loan work. The timber wall has been completed for the Walton roads metal dump. Wardville road: A further section has been scarified up and some metalling carried out, also some further metalling is being done on Alexander road; the Gordon crushing plant is now working well and good metal is being supplied. Stanley road, Manawaru: That section from near McLaren’s road to Osborn’s corner the metalling has been completed, leaving but a few chains on the southern end to be completed when the road is formed. School road, Manawaru, requires grading up early this season, also portion of Waghorn’s and Bowler’s roads require grading up. School drain, Manawaru: The cleaning of this drain is now completed. Te Aroha-Gordon road, between the Waiorongomai road corner and the borough boundary, requires some fresti metal, as the clay is showing through in many places. Diagonal road: A contract has been let for stumping and draining as part of tho formation to this road. Waitoa-Mata-mata road metalling: A start has been made and about 470 yards of metal have been carted on to this road. Valley road, Chudlelgh Estate: This road has been graded up. Stanley road (Elstow loan): The metalling of this road is now completed through to Bowler’s road. Wakahora road: Some sanding is required to til's road, as it is very rough in places. PaeroaTahuna road near tho Piako River bridge requires fresh sanding; considerable work in fascining lias been carried out on section of Paeroa-Ta-iiuna road adjoining Tahuna road. Talmna roads loan: No lime should lie lost in raising further loan moneys to proceed with work during Ihe coming season and the Government appealed to for assistance; a meeting of ralepavers should be held at an early date. Bowler’s road; The trees near Wallace's are shading the road very much; this portion of the road should ho metalled as soon as possible to allow the metalling in the Hlstow 'loan area lo proceed. The trees must he cut to allow the road to dry up. Lovegrove's and McCabe’s roads require grading up early this season, \\alo-rongomat-Maungakawa road nearkciehono is being graded up. No. 7 road: Considerable repairs in metal are being carried out also repairs to No. 8 roau and Cassia’s road. Easlporl road requires slight repairs in metal.
