TE AWAMUTU ORPHANS.

ENJOYABLE GATHERING,

The Te Awamutu Orphans' Club held their usual fortnightly meeting in the Council Chambers on Saturday night when Bro. S. Walker presided over an attendance of over forty. In the early part of the evening Bro. D. F. Mackay, hon secretary, on behalf of the Auckland .Orphans' Club, presented to the president, Bro. G. T. Robson, the handsome emblem, which the Mother Club had forwarded to the latest arrival. Bro. Robson, in accepting the token, thanked the Mother Club for its generosity, and then placed it on the shoulders of the chairman of the evening. Bro. S. Walker, in acknowledging the compliment, said it was one of the proudest moments of his life, and one he would always look back on, the fact that he was the first wearer of this jewel. He made the further announcement that the Auckland Orphans' Club had extended a hearty welcome to all members that could make the trip to their meeting on August 25. He then called on Bro. B. J. Taylor to explain a little of what the welcome would mean.

Bro. Taylor, speaking as an old member of the Auckland Orphans, advised all those who could possibly make the trip to do so, as they would receive a great reception, and it would also give them some idea of what the Orphans' Clubs stood for. The programme for the evening was as follows:—The orchestra gave a selection, "Idolizers"; Bro. G. T. Robson sang, "The Merry Monk" and "The Cobblers' Song"; Bro. Cocker, violin solo; Bro. Salter sang, "Over the Boundless Sea" and "Casey, the Fiddler"; Bro. W. F. Walker, "My Old Shako" and "The Drum Major"; Bro. Donald, "Take Thou This Rose" and "Dolarosa." The , orchestra gave several other items. The orchestra was very favourably commented on by the members, and in time, with its numbers augmented a little, it will prove of great service to the club.
