ROTORUA SENSATION.
PROMINENT MAN ARRESTED
GRANVILLE HUNT IN TROUBLE
Word was received by the police from Rotorua this' morning that Granville Hunt, a well known figure in the town, and also in Hamilton, had been arrested by Detective Sweeney on a charge of obtaining £2O by false pretences from Jessie Tanner. Accused, who is secretary of the Rotorua Racing Club and treasurer of the Bowling Club, besides taking a leading part in social functions, has been under suspicion for some little time. A warrant has been out for his arrest for the last few days. Hunt, however, apparently received word about the matter, and promptly went into hiding. Detective Sweeney and Senior-Sergeant Quinn were advised of the direction Hunt had taken, and catching him unawares in the darkness last evening, took him under arrest.
Accused will be charged at the Rotorua Court to-day, but a remand for eight days is lo be asked for.
