BAD CLEANSING AT CALVING TIME

When a cow calves every attention must be given to her, so that she has every chance to regain her former vitality in order to ward off attacks ■of milk fever, mammitis, colds, chills, etc. Drenching her with Sykes’ Drench ensures a proper cleansing of ihe afterbirth, thus preventing the membrane remaining in the uterus and decomposing, setting up the various ills cows are subject to at this critical period. Large herds of wild goals arc now infesting the Mount Egmont National Park. It is reported that they are doing considerable damage, particularly by ring-barking young trees. The position is considered to he serious. Probably the Government will be approaebed for assistance in exterminating the pest. A member nf the National Park Hoard considers that unless steps are soon taken to deal with goals and opossums the mountain will quickly become • a reserve for these animals.
