DAIRY PRODUCE CONTROL
A SIGNIFICANT OMISSION,
THE COMPULSORY CLAUSES,
VOTE OF SUPPLIERS SUGGESTED
By Telegraph.—Special to Times. WELLINGTON, Monday. It is being given as a little significant that in his main reply to Mr Hanan’s interrogation the Prime Minister made no mention of his intentions in regard to the “Dairy Pool.” It was left to Mr Masters to remind him of his omission. “That goes without saying,” he replied to the inquiry of the member of Stratford. “The Dairy Produce Control Bill will be gone cn with. Don’t make any mistake about that. And members will have an opportunity of going into the lobbies for and against it.” Mr Massey's attitude towards this measure has been the subject of a good deal of discussion about the House and in the city. Some months ago he said the dairy farmers might have the Bill if they were unanimous in wanting it. Later, he appeared to look with - disapproval upon the compulsory clauses of the measure. Then he spoke of their exclusion from the scheme. But now he seems to have been persuaded that they are necessary to the salvation of the dairying industry. It has been suggested that a solution of the points in dispute would be found by referring the question of compulsion to a vote of the factory suppliers, and it is not impossible that a provision to this effect will be inserted in the Bill.
