INCREASE IN ADVANCES.
NEW TERRITORY IN WAIPA,
A FAVOURABLE VIEW.
When Cr. Alexander, and the engineer (Mr J. W. Civil) were representing the Waipa County Council at the recent conference representations were made to the State Advances Department for an increase in the -county’s It was explained to -the superintendent that previous to the merging of West Taupo and county road boards the present area of the county was entitled to draw on the present limit, about £42,000, whereas at present, notwithstanding -the fact that about one-third of West Taupo \vas new country mostly in a backward state, Waipa’s limit was £SOOO. .Representations were made for an increase in this amount in view of circumstances. The Superintendent pointed out that 'a the department had-loaned £1,000,000 in the past 10 months and the moratorium needs had yet to be met. Local bodies did not understand what the department was doing in finding money. ’’However,” added the Superintendent, “your position is a very good one and perhaps I can suggest a way of helping you.” Cr. Alexander added that Mr X\ addell had given most valuable advice and information which should prove most gratifying to Hie ratepayers in Mangapiko and Kakepuku, and which would remove practically all serious worries in connection with the recently raised loans.
