Messrs Plummer and Beagletole, school inspectors, of the Auckland Education Department, are staying at “Brighton.” Messrs A. Graham and S. J. Nohcs have been recommended for appointment on the Ohaupo Cemetery Board, as representatives of the Waipa County. Cr. C. M. Alexander and the engineer (Mr J. \V. Civil), the representatives of the Waipa County Council at the conference of New Zealand Counties’ Association in Wellington, have returned. Messrs A. E. Harding, Captain Colbeclc, A. E. Spencer, A. St. C. Brown, P. M.’ Trower, and P. McCurnow, members of the Empire Emigration and Land Settlement League, who are in. Hamilton in connection with the business of the League, are staying at “Brighton.” Cr. W. McCarthy, of Pirongia, one of the Mangapiko riding representatives on the Waipa County, is an inmate of the Waikato hospital. At yesterday’s meeting the Council, in granting Cr. McCarthy leave of absence, wished him a speedy return to health.

A vote of condolence with the relatives of Hie late Mr. John McGregor, of Gordonton, was passed by the Waikato Council this morning. The chairman (Mr. J. P. Bailey) referred to the many high qualities of the deceased gentleman, and testified to the valued part which lie had taken in local body affairs in the Waikato.

The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs B. Garland, of Leeamington, was celebrated on Friday. They were married in the Anglican Church, Cambridge, on August 10, 1873, and have lived in the district practically ever since. They were the recipients of many congratulations from all parts ol’ the Dominion.

Mr A. J. Sinclair, assistant manager of the N.Z.C.D. Company, who for a couple of days has been confined to liis room with influenza, was able to attend at the office for a few 7 hours to-day. Mr A. J. Heighway, of the executive staff, is at present laid up with the same complaint. Mr” W. Goodfellow, managing director, who lias been ordered a complete rest, is reported to be making favourable progress.
