ALLEGED MANSLAUGHTER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. John Thomas Doherty, charged with manslaughter in respect to the'' death of Samuel James Cooke, who was killed in a ooHision between Doherty's car and another car at Hfll's Road, Richmond, evidence was given that ■at tbe time of the accident Doherty's car was travelling at from 30 to 35 miles an hour. The town clerk stated that before the fatality Doherty's certificate of ability to drive had been cancelled owing to his reckless driving. Accused, who pleaded not guilty, was ooaomitted for trial.
HABITUAL CRIMINAL.
GISBORNE, Friday. William John Davidson, with the aliases of Robert Wallace, Albert Dempsey, John Milson, and Bob Ryan, who was arrested for false pretences in this district, appeared to-day. He was also charged with false pretences at Frankton and in the Wliaagirei district. The police explained that Davidson was an habitual crinVnai, who was released on February 9 on license. Accused, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. The Magistrate said that accused in any case would have to go back to prison, and was at the disposal of the Prison Board.
