THE HIGHWAYS BILL.
CONSIDERED BY DELEGATES.

WELLINGTON, Saturday. A meeting of delegates of the Motor Associations of the North and South Islands to .consider the metho"d of taxation of motor vehicles in regard to ; ; revenue required in connection with the main highway scheme, was held : yesterday. The following motion was adopted: "That on Mr P. H. Wynyard's assurance and that of the N.Z. Motor Association that they will oppose any attempt to increase the following rates under the Vehicles Bill—viz., £2 for motor-cars and £1 for motor-cycles, this to include the annual registration and annual license fee —-and will support any further revenue required for the purposes of 'the Main Highways ■ Board being obtained from an increase of tire tax, the South Island representatives accepted the proposal that the above rates would be in addition to the initial registration fee for oar and cycle." ■ The conference also passed a resolution in favour of the police charge of the licensing and registra-' tion of motor vehicles and the collection of feea and, subject to above resolution, that the Government be \ asked to expedite the passing of. the i Motor Vehicles Bill this session.
