MINERS' EYE AFFLICTION.
REPORT OF COMMITTEE,
Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn. LONDON, August 10.
The report of the Miners' Nystagmus Committee, shows an apparent increase in disease, but most classes are only partially incapacitated. The sufferers benefit physically and psychologically by work, which they should be encouraged to undertake as soon as possible. The report recommends that everything possible should be done lo make the standard illumination of safety lamps equal to the open light of the pit. The report concludes that errors of refraction have no direct influence on the disease.
Nystagmus is an affection of the eye which causes winking, such as happens when a person is very sleepy.
