CASE AGAINST HEAYDON. STATEMENT BY ACCUSED. INTIMIDATED BY THE NUBSE. United Press Association. SYDNEY, August 10. At the hearing n.f the charge of misprision of felony against Alfred Heaydon, the police produced two statements alleged to have been made to them by Heaydon. In the first he declared that when his wife left him he understood that she was going to stay with friends. She informed hull that she intended to undergo a certain operation. He tried to dissuade her, but the effort was futile. lie alleged that he did not know that she was dead, but wrote to her sister-in-law, stating that his wife was dead, in order to stop correspondenoe. In a later statement- Heaydon is alleged to have said that he vis'ited his wife while she was in bed in a home. The nurse subsequently told him that his wife was dead. The nurse visited him, and scared him by saying that she arid lie would be hanged, and urged avoidance for his child’s sake, also that it was Ids wife’s absolute wish that he should do nothing. For these reasons he did not report the matter to the police. He did not see his wife after her death, and did not know what became of the body. Witnesses gave evidence that Hcaydon told them that his wife had left him. As the result of a report by medical officers, an inquest is being held on the bones found by. the police in the course of their search for the body of Mrs Heaydon.
