Reference was made recently to a new variety of potato, which it was stated was ready for use in 10 weeks from planting. An old identity from Oamaru informed a North Otago Times representative that he had known of potatoes to be ready in loss than that time. He stated that many years ago he remembered a ship called the Unicorn (later the Empress Eugenie), nailing at Oamaru with an over-supply of tubers. A Mr Dawson planted these potatoes, and was able lo supply the boat, with them before lier departure, which was much less than 10 weeks from the date of her arriv* 1 -
