Rev. H. T. Steele, vicar of Helensville, has been appointed vicar of Whangarci in succession to. Rev, G. C. Cruiekshank, who is going to St. Mark's, Hemucra.
Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, was in Hamilton last night on his way to Te Aroha to preside at the hearing of the South Auckland Butchers' dispute. Mr R. T. Reid, of the Waikato Hotel, left last evening for Wollinglon to-> give evidence before the commission set up to go into the question of reform in the liquor trade. The Rev. A. W. McMillan, of the London Missionary Society, was a passenger from Sydney by the Ulimaroa yesterday. For many yeans he has been engaged >in mission work in the Benares district.
The Board of Directors of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind at Auckland has appointed Mr Clutha Mackenzie director. The candidature was 'Supported by Mr Caughley, director of the -New Zealand Education Department. Mr Mackenzie wis instrumental in raising the-Pearson Memorial Fund for the Blind in New Zpaland, at present amounting to £33,000. His Excellency the Governor-Gene-ral and Viscountess Jellicoe have arranged to leave Wellington, accompanied by tone Honourable Lucy Jellicoe, on Friday on a visit to Chrislchurch, where they will stay at "Riverlaw," ithe residence of the Hon. G. J. Smith. Whilst in Chrlstchurch Their Excellencies will attend the races at Riccarton and Addington, and will fulfil various other engagements. His Excellency will arrive back in Wellington on August 19, and Her Excellency on August 22. Mr A. W..S'ims, one of New Zealand's foremost tennis players, who has won ten championships, including the Auckland, Taranaki, N.Z. University, Waikato, Otago, and New Zealand double championships, has taken up his residence in Invercargill, and is engaged in the dental profession with Dr. 11. J. Yule. Mr Sims, who was a member of tlie New Zealand tennis team that toured Australia last season, is a son of Mr and Mrs S. B. Sims, of this town.
