DEDPUTATION TO MINISTER,

NO UNNECESSARY DELAY. ;

Australian and N.Z. cable Assn. Received July 24, 12.30 p.m. LONDON, July 23.

Lord Burnham introduced a deputation from the Empire Press Union to Sir L. Worthington Evans. It was representative of all the Dominions. Members urged the pressing forward of the Imperial wireless service. Sir L. Worthington Evans said the question was one of national and Imperial importance. It was imperative to evolve a workable commercial scheme. He denied that there had been any unnecessary delays, and pointed "out that the issue should be settled within a month. Thereafter there would be nothing to prevent the erection of a high power station, which should be operative within twelve to eighteen months. The Government's object in the present negotiations over licenses was to secure an enterprise with a minimum or Government control. He hoped that the wireless rate would always be lower than cable rates, though there would doubtless be competition.
