OBITUARY.
SIR WILLIAM FRASER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Monday. The death occurred this morning of Sir William Fraser. Sir William Fraser was born in iB6O, being the son of Captain Hugh Fraser, sth Madras Light Cavalry, of Leadclune, Invernesshire. He arrived in New Zealand in 1858, and was elected to the Otago Provincial Council in 1866, and to the New Zealand Parliament in 1893. In 1912 he joined the Massey Cabinet as Minister of Public Works ,and acted in the same capacity to the National Cabinet from 1915 to 1920. In the latter year he resigned the portfolio, but retained his position as member of Cabinet, and was appointed to the Legislative Council, holding office at the time of his death. He was knighted in 1918. Sir William had been ill for some time. He 'leaves one daughter, with whom widespread sympathy will be expressed.
BISHOP WATTS-DITCHFIELD. Australian end N.Z. Cable Assn. LONDON, July 16. The death Is announced of Right Rev. John Edwin Watts-Ditchfleld, Bishop of Chelmsford. Right Rev. J. E. Walts-Ditchfield was born in 1861. He was ordained in 1891, and was curate of St. Peter's, Highgate, from 1891-97. He went to Australia as delegate for the C.E.M.S. In 1912, and filled various positions until 1914, when ho was consecrated First Bishop of Chelmsford. He was the author of several books dealing with religious themes.
