WALTON CLUB. Good golfing weather marked the match day (Saturday) when Walton and■ Matamata met for the first time this season at the Walton links. Several of the home club members have recently had the benefit of Mr J. Watt’s services as coach. Mr Watt (“Sammy," golf correspondent to Truth), a fine exponent of the game, expressed admiration of the course, which he believes capable of easy transformation into a championship arena where classic events could be contested. Saturday’s visitors found the conditions exceedingly favourable to their style of play, and scored a preponderance of wins. The following were the winners with their margins:— Matamata Ladies. —Miss Keene, 4 and 2; Mrs Marne, 1 up; Mrs Riddell, 3 and 2; Mrs Vokper, 5 and 3; Mrs Montague, 8 up and 7 to play. Walton Ladies. —Miss D. Gwen, 2 up and 1. Matamata Men. —Mr. Kersey, 4 up and 2; Mr Rollett, 9 up and 8; Rev. Stewart, 2 up and 1; Mr Stockdale, 1 up. Walton Men. —Mr Bellingham, 3 up and 1; Mr Cole, 5 up and 4. Mrs N. Jordan and Miss Fromm carried out the pleasing duties of host--6 S S 6 S. Mr L. Bellingham, captain of the local club, has arranged for a flag competition to be played next Saturday, and a brisk contest Is anticipated.
