Acland (Lib.) 12,041 Colonel Troyte (Con.) .. 11,638 Brown (Ind. Lab.) .... 495 The Tiverton by-election was caused by the death of Mr H. C. Spai'kes, who was returned as Conservative member at the general election. The poll then was:— Sparlies (Con.) 10,304 Acland (Lib.) 10,230 Brown (Lab.) 1,457
