THE SUNSHINE LEAGUE.
The first annual report of the Waikato Hospital Patients’ Sunshine League, to be presented at a meeting of subscribers on Tuesday, and a copy of which is published in our columns to-day, makes pleasant reading. The movement, initiated as the result of 'suggestions made by Dr. Gower a little over 12 months ago, was warmly taken up from its inception, and as the result of cordial public support the body then formed under the title of the Waikato Hospital Patients’ Sunshine League has been enabled during the past year to do much to lighten the lot of the sick and suffering inmates of the institution. The/League has, in short, proved most successful in co-ordinating into effective directions the sympathy, so generally felt throughout the community, with those laid aside by reason of illness or accident, but which, without organised direction, must necessarily prove less efficacious in alleviating the lot of the unfortunate to tho extent desired. The several avenues by which the League has. been able to brighten the existence and relieve the necessities of hospital patients or their dependents are referred to in the annual report, which gives a modest account of laudable work, unselfishly and capably carried out, by a band of enthusiastic and self-sacrificing helpers, which lias found its activities cheerfully seconded in every possible direction by the medical and nursing staffs of the Waikato Hospital. The very successful results achieved by the Sunshine League during its first 12 months’ trial should do much to hearten all workers in, and subscribers to, this worthy movement, and it seems safe to predict that Uie annual meeting on Tuesday will bo well attended. A large gathering will rightly indicate the measure of public support commanded by the movement and will, moreover, provide an excellent opportunity for suggestion and consideration of means whereby the I
splendid results already achieved may be still further amplified and extended during the coming year.
