SOUTH AFRICAN MAIZE.

PROPOSED DUMPING DUTY. SYDNEY MERCHANTS INCENSED. United Press Association. Received June 22, 11.10 a.m. SYDNEY, June 22. Consternation has- been caused among a number of Sydney merchants over the decision of the Commonwealth to impose a dumping duty of 7d per cental, or about 4d per bushel, on maize imported from South Africa. The Customs Minister previously agreed upon the necessity of importations, with the result that orders were confidently placed in South Africa, and some shipments are actually in Australian waters. A meeting of protest will be held to-day.
