HAMILTON BOWLING CLUB

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING.

The annual general meeting of the Hamilton Bowling Club wais held in the Club House last evening. Mr J. Varney presided over a fair attendance of members.

Thots annual report stated that the receipts for the year showed a slight increase over those of the previous year. In view of the fact that last year was one of general financial depression, the executive considered that the club had cause for congratulation in fully maintaining its revenue. Extra expense had been involved on account of additions to shed; new concrete yard, and an extra amount spent on top-dressing the new green.. These items collectively amounted to £lO3, and it was owing to this increased expenditure that the balance-sheet showed a small deficit. The club membership for the year was 96, and it was the opinion of the executive that by individual effort on the part of members, the membership of the club could be considerably increased during the coming year. The club was represented at the following tournaments: •- Dominion Championship Rink (Pahs and Singles), Rotorua, Te Awamutu, Thames, Cambridge, Tauranga, South Auckland, and First Hamilton Tournament. In the latter Mr N. W. Bell’s rink was the wanner. Club teams reached semi-finals at Te Awamutu, Cambridge, Thames and Rotorua. In the Dominion Championship Pairs Messrs Pilkington and Loveridge, and Bell and Meredith each won their sections, and Mr N. W. Bell’s team won their section in championship rinks. Mr R. N. Pilkington reached semi-finals in Championship Singles. The club appreciates the efforts of the respective players. Inter-club matches: The club engaged in 14 inter-club matches during the season, winning 13, and one drawn game. The aggregate points scored were 1590 for, and 1122 against. Three first year’s games were played, two being won and one lost. Visiting teams: During the year we had the pleasure of visits of two teams of Australian bowlers, viz., Queensland and New South Wales. These visits were greatly enjoyed by both visitors and local bowlers. During the past year the club bade farewell to Mr M. Darke, the late president, prior to his departure to the Old Land. The function could fairly be classed as one of the most successful in the history of the club. Representative bowlers from Waikato clubs joined forces with Hamilton, Whitiora, Frankton, and Hamilton East Clubs in bidding au revoir to Mr Darke. Over 100 bowlers participated in the function. The executive extended its thanks to the greenkeeper (Mr G. L. Ewen) for providing excellent greens, sometimes under very adverse conditions. The balance-sheet showed a deficit of £lB 18s. Mr D.. R. Meredith, the newlyelected president, on taking the chair expressed his appreciation for the confidence placed in him by the members. He referred to the good work in the interests of the club of pastpresidents and other officers, and hoped that he would be enabled to achieve the same excellent results during his term of office. The speaker also pointed out that the club would benefit considerably by the individual co-operation of every member. The election of officers resulted as under: President, Mr D. R. Meredith; < hon. secretary, Mr H. Varney;; non. treasurer, Mr R. Coltman; hon. auditor, Mr 11. H. Leak; executive, Messrs G. Wilkes, F. T. Wilson, A. J oil, and 11. Grocott; delegates to Hamilton Tournament Committee, Messrs D. R. Meredith, J. Varney, and N. Bell, sen.; delegates to South Auckland Centre, Messrs D. R. Meredith, N. Bell, sen., and T. Mitchell; selection committee, Messrs R. Coltman, J. Varney, and G. Wilkes. ... Several matters in connection with the general management of the club were fully discussed. The question oj relaying the bottom green was debited by the meeting, and it was decided that it be an instruction to the incoming executive to .take the necessary steps to have this green relaid. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the outgoing executive, and the president also expressed the appreciation of the club to the Press for the publicity given the game in the past.
