Either he may quietly develop his game as in the text, or he may play boldly P K 4, trying to reap advantage from the possibility of a check at K R 5. In the latter case the play generally continues 2 . . . P x P; 3 Kt Q B 3, Kt KK B 3; 4 B K Kt 5. (b) This looks quite all right, but leads )o terrible disaster. (c) The unexpected move that upsets White's game. (d) No better is 16 B x R, for then 16 . . . Kt x P; 17 Q Q 3, Kt x B ch, and White dare not continue with 18 P x Kt, Q Kt 4 ch; 19 K R 1, B x P ch, etc. (e) If 18 B x P. Kt B 6 ch wins the Q. If 18 Q x Kt, Q Kt 4 ch; 19 K R sq, B x P mate. (f) For after K moves, Black plays 0 R 5, and White's game is utterly hopeless.
