CATHOLIC MISSION.
SOCIAL EVILS DENOUNCED. Preaching at the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary last" flight the Very s ßev. Father McCarthy trenchantly denounced many of the social vices' prevalent in present day society. Basing his remarks on the text "Woe be to the scandal giver," he defined scandal as spiritual murder. The evil of drunkenness, the prevaienee of immoral and irreligious literature, and illicit company keeping met with vigorous denunciation. Race suicide was a moral cancer poisoning the life springs of national greatness. It was a crime against humanity as well us a flagrant violation of the law of God, and the law of nature written on every mail's heart. No theory of false social economy could plead 'ls justitication. It was a vice which overthrew and destroyed the old pagan Roman Empire. It was honeycombing our own modern civlisatiort, and would as cerlalily spell its ruin, as was the case with the civilisations of the past. One of England's greatest Prime Ministers, Gladstone, had declared that no foreign foe seriously menaced the stability of our Empire, the enemy was within the gates, the people were losing ttie sense of sin. The mission in Hamilton Will continue all next week and in addition a mission will be given at Te Kowhai.
