MAY DAY IN EUROPE.
APATHETIC LONDONERS. Australian and N.Z.' cable Assn. LONDON, May 1. A Labour Day demonstration in Hyde Park fell rather flat, the crowd being below the average in numbers. Communists attended in force,, but one speaker declared that the day ' was likely to prove a failure owing to what he described as “ the pig-headed apathy of trades unionists.” BERLIN, May 1. May Day passed quietly in Berlin and Munich, but disorders occurred at Regensburg and Lichtonfels, in Bavaria, between National Socialists and Social Democrats., One person whs killed and several' were' wounded at, Regensburg. NEW YORK, May 1. Sporadic small strikes in various industries in 10 eastern cities of the United States occurred on May Day, involving no less than 50,000 workers. There was no violence, though in several cities Hie police were compelled Lo disperse overflow audiences at Socialistic meetings. TOKIO, May 1. Various parades of Workers displaying red bands occurred here and in neighbouring cities. Large forces of police kept order, a few arrests being made. The police strictly enforced the regulation against the display of red flags. Large gatherings were addressed by extremist speakers.
