CATHOLIC MISSION.
OPENING CEREMONIES. Yesterday's ceremonies at the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary were of a specially impressive character, when a fortnight's mission was solemnly opened by the Very Rev. V 'Father McCarthy, S.M. At the evening devotions the seating accornrnoda- ' » tlon was taxed to capacity when the Rev. Father preached a powerful sermon on " Salvation," stressing the value of the soul, as, evidenced by God's eternal concern for its welfare. It was man's duty to accept GocVs valuation by the earnest practice of Christian virtue. The mission was designed to awaken -interest in the " one thing necessary," and failure to answer its message and its. demands would bring down the anger of God. The directness of a stirring peroration brought large congregations to the morning exercises at 6,7, and 0 o'clock. A special sermon is announced for this even- ! ing at 7.30, and present enthusiasm points to an overflowing congregation.
