David Kelly, alias O'Keefe, has been committed for trial on a charge of murdering Mrs Overall, at Millgrovc, near Warburton, in June of last year. According to this Kelly was boarding with Mrs Overall, and arranged to pay her £2 weekly for life as the value of her property. Later the woman fell ill, and Kelly arranged to send her to the hospital, but before this could be done she died. Kelly, according to his confession, thereupon became frightened and burned the body in a paddock and threw the ashes in the River Yarra. He informed inquirers that he had bought the property for £IOOO, and that the woman had gone away, he! knew not where. When first interrogated by the police he told them he \ got no receipts for the purchase, but< later he produced two for i:r>oo, each; signed by Mrs Overall; but he subse-I quently staled that he had forged Mrs Overall's signature. The police found pieces of charred bones in the river, and also traces where the body was allegedly burned. The police also tendered further evidence to the effect that Kelly, under the name of O'Keefe, lived with a woman named Mary McGrath in the Bacchus Marsh district prior 1o "boarding with Mrs Overall. Mrs McGrath suddenly disappeared, and had not since been heard of. When questioned regarding Mrs McGrath, Kelly said: " You don't want to rake that up against me now."
