TRIAL OF BEVAN
PLEA OF NO£ GUILTY
COUNSEL’S OPEINING ADDRESS.
A FOUR HOURS’ SPEECH,
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.)
LONDON, Nov. 20
Bevan pleaded not guilty to charges in connection with the failure of the City Equitable Insurance Company.
Sir E. Pollack, late Sojjgilor-General, in his opening speech for’ the Crown, occupied four hours, and concluded by asking the jury to contrast the real figures of the balance-sheets with the faked ones, and if the facts proved that he was right in saying that this master mind, this powerful personality, had misused his opportunity for a sinister purpose, it. would be the jury’s duty to return a verdict of guilty.
