CHARGES AGAINST OFFICERS.
SITTING OF COMMISSION,

Arising out of the Springboks’ cable leakage and other inquiries held privately by the Post and Telegraph Department, Mr Hunt, S.M., has been 'appointed a Royal Commission to inquire into allegations by 0. C. Mazengarb, solicitor, making charges against the administrative and other principal officers of the Department, that in the conduct of inquiries into charges of misconduct against officers improper methods have been adopted for obtaining evidence; facts favourable to the 1 accused have been wilfully suppressed, and undue harshness observed.
The Commission formally opened and adjourned last month, and resumed this morning. Mr 11. E. Coombs appeared for the Officers’. Association, and Mr Macassy for the Department. Mr Coombs applied for an adjournment until after the election, as he is fully occupied by bis candidature, and unable to give the time.
Mr Macassy opposed, as the charges had been promulgated among the executive of the Association, \ and might Have a serious effect uppn discipline.
Arter further discussion the Commission adjourned till 18th December.
