AUSTRALIA WINS DOUBLES AN EASY VICTORY. GREAT DISPLAY BY WOOD. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) NEW YORK, September 2. In the Davis Cup doubles Paterson and Wood (Australia) defeated Tilden and Richards (America), 6 —4, 6 —o, 6—3. The following is the analysis of the piay:— . , ' First Set. —Americans: Aces 1, Placements 6, Outs 13, Nets 9, Double Faults 2. Australasians: 0,9, 11, 11, 2. Second Set. —Americans: 0,0, 3, 11, 0.- Australasians: 0, 11, 4,4, 0. Third Set. —Americans: 2,5, 6, 12, 0. Australasians: 14, 3,4, 10, 0. The tennis match lasted fifty-four minutes, the Australian victory proving a tremendous surprise to the spectators, who rose to their feet and gave Patterson and Wood a remarkable ovation. Wood was the outstanding hero of the day, his placement shots and nets being constantly brilliant and frequently mirdculous. Patterson was greater than he has ever ' been in doubles here. He was frequently spectacular, but for the most part he was content to let Wood shine. Tilden fought a terrific battle, but found poor support in Richards, who was unable to clear the net with his returns.
