SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNEY.

SUCCESSFUL COMPETITION,

The annual seven-a-side tournament in connection with the Waikato Men's and Ladies' Association took • place at Seddon Park, on Saturday afternoon. The playing surface was rather greasy after the recent rains, rendering it difficult to maintain a good fooihold. Play was interesting throughout, and all the games were keenly contested, t'Sie scores in each instance being very close. United were successful in retaining the shield, beating Hamilton in the final, I—o. In the ladies' competition High School B won the Anal from Scolls, I—o. MEN'S GAMES. First Round. Old Boyjs (3) beat Ngahinepouri (2) after a fast and even game. Mr Mullins referced. United (1) beat Frankton (0). This game was a very solid contest, the losers' tendency to hard hitting losing them several good chances. Mr Hunter refereed. Hamilton won by default from Y.M.C.A. Seml-Flnal. Hamilton (2) beat Old Boys \,i). Hamilton jiad the bye In the first round, and were able to maintain a solid .pace throughout. Old Boys led in the first spell, 1-—-0, the winners coming to light In the second venture with solid work. Nicholson stoppod several hot shots by Old Boys. Mr Fabling refereed. FINAL. United (1) v. Hamilton (0). From the opening bully the pace was a "cracker." The ball travelled from goal to goal at a great rate. Offside play by -Flit spoilt two goals for the winners. At the change over

there was no score, and both teams' efforts to net the ball were unavailing. Towards the end United pressed strongly, and Fitt again netted, but was too far forward. Time was called shortly after. The teams changed ever again for extra time, and some fine runs were made by both sides, the winning score eventually coming from a good centre by Mayes, which Fitt gathered up, and shot a splendid goal. It was a very exciting bout, and a fitting end to an excellent afternoon's sport. Mr Staples refereed. LADIES' GAMES. First Round. Old Girls A 2nd beat High School A Ist after a very keenly fought game. At the call of time theiscore was one all. Extra time was ordered, and after a lengthy spell of exciting hockey Old Girls penetrated the defence to win by the odd goal. This was quite the best game of the afternoon, and both teams played good

hockey. Mr Staples refereed. High School B (3) beat Old Girls' B (0). The losers were short-handed, but they put up a solid fight, being unlucky in not scoring on several occasions. Mr Fabling refereed. Scotts (1) beat High School C (0). A good game resulted, Scotts winning after a close contest. Mr Mullins refereed. Semi-Final.

High School B (1) beat Old Girls A (0). This game provided the surprise of the afternoon, it being fully expected that the losers would take the honours. However, despite

having the best of the play they were unable to finish off their efforts at goal-getting, while the winners were successful in goaling towards the end Of the first spell, this being the only score. Mr Hunter refereed. Final. High School B (1) beat Scotts (0). Both teams were somewhat tired as the result of earlier efforts, but a good game eventuated. Scotts had the best of play in the first spell, but could not And the net, while School were also unlucky. On changing ends Scotts looked like taking the 'ead for awhile, but School gradually overcame the opposition, being rewarded wilti a goal Just on the call of time. Mr Fabling refereed.
