TE RAPA. The Hall scheme. A meeting of residents was held in the schoolroom on Friday in connection with tlie hall Scheme. The collectors submitted their lists, which showed £126 had bccu promised. The committee is very grateful to the residents for the liberal response, and the collectors were heartily thanked for their work. It was decided that arrangements be made for the survey of section, and that Mr Bailey wait on some of the business firms of Hamilton with a view of securing further help. A plan of a hall was submitted lo the meeting by one of the residents, and will be considered later. A special meeting of residents will be held on Friday to take steps to form a club and appoint a committee of management. Mr R. C. Church was appointed secretary and treasurer. TAUPiRI. The funeral of the late Mr Gilbert Calvert, of Taupiri, took place at Papakura on Thursday, 22nd jnst. A large number of residents of Taupiri assembled at the railway station on th e arrival of the passenger train ior Auckland. The mortuary van was opened and some beautiful wreaths were placed in the coffin. That front the local branch of the Farmers’ Union was deposited by the President of the local branch, Mr T. A. Bradley. As a last mark of respect a number of residents journeyed to Papakura to pay the last sad tribute to a worthy settler. Concert and Dance. A concert and dance in aid of -the Russian Famine Relief Fund, organised by Mr and Mrs T. A. White, took place in the Taupiri Hall on Friday, 23rd, before a very fair audience. The programme was a fine one, and the items were all of a very high class, with a pleasing variety that raised the enthusiasm of those resent. The performers, who journeyed from Hamilton, Huntly, Gordonton and Auckland, doubtless at great personal sacrifice, are deserving of our thanks for their efforts: — Following was the programme, most of the ilcrns receiving vociferous encores: —Overture, Mr White’s Orchestra; vocal duet, “Peggy O’Neill,” Mrs Plugge and Miss McCarthy; trombone solos. “Flower Song,” from “Faust”; and “Sousa’s Thunderer,” Mr C. Shugg; vocal quartettes, “Alabama Lullabay” and “Aloha,” Messrs Tut Henare, J. Amu, Moka Ilopa and C. Marlin; songs, “The Rosary” and encore, Mrs Plugge; Irish Jig, Misses Carbines; songs, I’ll Sing to You," “Tlie Sheik," “Gallant Salamander,” and Drinking," Mr Meats; comic songs, “Follow the Footsteps’” and “You Naughty Boy,” Mr Brabiner; songs, “I Wonder if Love is a Dream," and “Down the Vale,” Miss Harrison: violin solos, “Serenade” and Raff’s “Cavatina,” Mr Mussen; Scotch Dances. “Sheatintruibhaus and Highland Fling, Miss McDougall (piper, Pipe-Major Thompson) ; song, “Valley of Laughter,” Miss McCarthy; trumpet solo, Mr S. Tombs: songs, “Annie Laurie" and “Give Me Thy Sympathy,” Miss Violet Harrison; song, “Melisande in the Wood,” Miss Storey; ballet dance, Misses Carbines; Irish jig, Miss McDouaail; song, “Requiem,” Mr Meats; comic song, “I’m on my Holiday,” Mr Brabiner; vocal trios, “Ilawaaian Lullaby” and “On the Shores of Miami,” Messrs Henare, Amu and Hopa; comic song, “A Hundred Years From- Now,”’ Mr C. Shugg; God Save the King. After the concert an enjoyable dance was held, the music being supplied by Mr White’s orchestra and lady volunteers.
