UNIVERSITIES’ TEAM BEATEN. WAIKATO ACCOUNTS FOR VISITORS. VICTORY BY 25 POINTS TO NIL. The team of League footballers, representative of the combined SydnevBrisbane Universities, which* had previously met Auckland on two occasions and won both games, was opposed by a thirteen from Waikato at Ngaruawahia yesterday, and beaten soundly to the tune of 25 points to nil on a holding ground. The home team was comprised principally of Lower Waikato , (Huntly, Taupiri-Ngaruawahia) players, with the exception of Neill (forward) and Hemmingway (back) from Hamilton. While it is admitted that the tour- ' ists were not at their maximum , strength, Craig (half) being a notable absentee, they never looked like outdoing the home men, who tackled resolutely and kept the ball as much as . possible in their possession. A goodly crowd watched the game, including many visitors from Cambridge, Ha.ni - ton and districts north of the convmc- . ing ground, the sum of £55 8s bein o taken at the gate. Good work by the full-back turned Peckham off. The home backs swung'across field, but cramped them- • : selves. The visitors showed themselves very smart at intercepting and worklof this nature by Ward saved a ' dash at the corner in which Wilson was 1' prominent.
