BOY SCOUTS’ CONTEST
HOURAKI CHALLENGE CUP.
TE AROHA, Friday
Troops of Boy Scouts from Tauranga, Thames, Matamata, and Te Aroha competed yesterday in the Hauraki challenge sup first annual contest. In the first section Matamata was placed first, with Te Aroha second, and Thames third. At flag-signalling Matamata again won, with Thames second and Tauranga third. The bridge-building section was not completed owing to failing light, and the cup points were therefore confined To the first two sections, Matamata winning the cup. Thfr bndge-building was quite the most interesting competition, and Tauranga was winning when the event was abandoned. The boys were required to erect a tresle footway over the Puriri Street creek, and the work was done very efficiently The cup was handed to the Matamata scoutmaster, Rev. W. E. Connolly, by the Mayor, Mr R. Coulter, who eulogised those responsible for the arrangements.
