' Lord Chelmsford is suffering from overstrain and has been ordered a complete rest. —London cable. At its meeting yesterday the Waikato A. and P. Association passed a vote of condolence with one of the members of the Association, Mr W. Morgan, of Cambridge, on the death of his wife recently. Dr. 11. M. Budd. assistant-surgeon at the Waikato Hospital, yesterday resigned his position and was accorded a special vote of thanks for his excellent services. We understand Dr. Budd intends commencing practice in Hamilton. Cr S. J. Rawlinson (member of the Whaingaroa Riding) tendered his resignation at Wednesday's meeting of Raglan County Council, as he had moved from, Raglan to Hamilton East. He regretted severing- his connection witli the riding, but felt it was in the best interests of ratepayers to do so under the circumstances. In accepting Hie resignation Mr Campbell John(stonc, chairman, regretted losing the services of such a competent member. Mr Rawlinson had always pulled with the other members, had taken a deep interest in his work, and had done everything possible for his riding. Whaingaroa would be lucky if they secured the services of another Councillor as capable. He moved that a motion of appreciation of Cr Rawlinson's valuable services be placed on record. This was seconded by Cr Swann. and carried amidst hearty acclamation, A very old resident of the Waikato, In the person of Mrs Maria Crosby, relict of the late John Crosby, died at her daughter's residence, paeroa, on Wednesday, aged 88. The late Mrs Crosby went to Melbourne at the age of 26, and was married in St. Francis' Church there. When the Maori War broke out she came to Auckland with her husband. Re enlisted under Captain Steele in the 4th Waikatos, with the rank of sergeant: and when the railway was opened in Auckland ho was first ganger, under Mr Rrodgen. and was afterwards inspector on the railways, a position he retained for 11 years.' Mrs Crosby was one of Ihe first to land by boat at Hamilton, below where the traffic bridge stands. She is survived by four sons—Messrs Pat, Thomas, Frank, and .Tames Crosby—and one daughter—Agnes— grandchildren. Her youngest daughter (Margaret), Sister Mary St. Hubert, of the Institution of Notre Dame des Mission, predeceased her two years ago.
