POWER TO SPARE
LOCAL BODY CONSUMPTION. SHORT OF ANTICIPATION'S. There was a general howl of “not enough" by local bodies, when the official allocation of hydro-electric current from the Hora flora power station was announced, and, like so many Oliver Twists, everybody crie 1 out for more, as they were sure their claims had no) been properly considered. and 11131, their consumption would far exceed Ihe amount granted them. We are informed by a high authority, however, that the total consumption of power by the joint local bodies is no more than 4 per cent, of the total produced at Hora Hora, of which 25 per cent, is available for the local authorities in question. The Government is, in fact, anxious for a greater consumption, as the cost of production is the same whether the. consumption is small or large. Of course, the districts have not yet been thoroughly reticulated, and the consumption will undoubtedly rise considerably, but there will slill remain a substantia! surplus for some years, oven when the present districts are consuming at their full capacity.
