MATAfWATA COTTAGE HOSPITAL. BOARD EXPRESSES APPRECIATION. The Matamata Hospital Committee lias forwarded lo Hie Waikato Hospital Board a cheque for £IOOO towards Hie erection of a collage hospital at Ma lama la. Some 12 months ago Mr R. Browne, one of the oldest residents of the district, donated to the public a section of land valued at £3OO towards Hie erection of the hospital, with Hie promise of £3OO in cash wticn Ibe public subscribed a similar amount. The latter figure was recently reached and Mr Browne’s cheque paid over. The total monies received by the Matamata committee is nearly £llOO, matters were being banded over to Hie Board’s control. U was understood that Hie whole of the assets (land and cash) would carry a Government subsidy of 2is in the £. The Board was ashed to expedite the legal preliminaries in order Hint the hospital may speedily be pul In hand. When the matter was brought bgfore the Board for consideration at yesterday’s meeting, Mr Dickinson moved that necessary steps be taken to expedite the erection of the hospital. Mr Teasdalc, in seconding, said that Hie gift was a grand one. The first work the Board lias authorised is the clearing of Hie trees from flic area.

The Board referred in high appreciative terms lo Hie generous gift by Mr Browne, and lo Hie handsome financial support of the district towards the hospital. Mr Johnstone said that flic whole gift was one of the most generous the Board had ever received. Where Hie people were out to help themselves it was ids policy to help Hie people. The Board specially recorded Hie .grift by Mr Browne, and Hie whole scheme ""ill he undertaken as quickly as possible.
