LABOUR CONGRESS
SOCIALISATION OF INDUSTRY.
CONSTITUTIONAL METHODS
United Press Association.) BRISBANE. October 12
The Labour Conference, after carrying the socialisation resolution, warmly debated the details of the scheme. Mr Theodore warned Hie delegates that if the conference adopted certain proposals contained in Ihc agenda paper, including the establishment of an elective Economic. Council by all nationalised industry, it would mean the end of the Labour movement. They had changed the objective of the party and might as well change the name to the Communist party. There was bound to be a split in the movement. The ostensible object was Pandering to certain extreme industrialism supporters of Hie agenda, who contended that the present methods had failed and that something more progressive was necessary.
The majority of tne speakers, however, opposed the extremist and communistic ideals, and an amendment was carried by 21 to 10 in favour of employing constitutional methods - .n securing Ihc objective. A resolution was adopted in favour of a caucus press campaign.
