JAPAN AND EMIGRATION
NO DESIGNS ON AUSTRALIA. WELCOMED IN UTIIER CENTRES. THE EQUALITY ISSUE. (United Press Association.) SYDNEY, October 12. M. Suzuki, the new Japanese ConsulGeneral, in an interview, disclaimed any intention of Japan Hooding Australia with immigrants. Even if her people were anxious to emigrate, which they were not, Japan would never think of sending them to Australia if the Australian people opposed it. There is still plenty of room for the Japanese to live, in their own country; and besides Manchuria, Siberia. South America ami other lands, particularly South America, were ready lo welcome Japanese immigrants. Regarding Ihe statement that Japan Intended lo demand at Hie Washington Conference equal commercial treatment in Australia, it pnhabl\ meant that Japan was simply asking lo be treated as other foreign countries. There was no intention lo pave the way for wholesale immigration from Japan. He declared that all sections of Japanese favoured disarmament and were looking forward hopefully to the result of the Washington conference.
