PANIC IN AUSTRIA
. 4 GREAT FINANCIAL CRISIS^ VALUELESS MONEY. FLUCTUATIONS IN PRICES. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received October'll, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, October 10. The Daily Chronicle's Vienna correspondent states that the financial panic has resumed. Customers are now storming the shops in Vienna. They are withdrawing their money and buying food wildly, under fear that the shops may run out of provisions through their inability to replenish stocks now that 12,500 kroner go to the pound sterling. (A krone is nominally worth lOd). Any people with money are buying- stocks before their money becomes valueless. Some are purchasing a year ahead, and many others arc feverishly purchasing francs, marks and dollars in case the krone should become worthless. Shopping has become a bewildering process, as prices may double or treble within a day. Many shops refuse to sell more than a certain amount of goods to one customer.
