VALEDICTORY
POPULAR “MINE HOSTS.” A very pleasing function took place at the Royal Hotel, on Saturday, when Mr C. Trigg (late proprietor) and Mr W. Cleary, were tlic recipients of a handsome suit case each (both cases being suitably inscribed). Mr H. E. Tristram, in making the presentation, spoke of the sterling qualities of these gentlemen, and expressed flic regret that all felt at their leaving the hotel. He mentioned that both tiicse gentlemen were very liberal supporters of all branches of sport, and never failed to support any worthy object when the occasion arose.
Messrs Stevens, Speight anil Clarkin also spoke of the many kindnesses that these gentlemen had extended to the football players during the lime tlmy were In charge of the hotel, and heartily thanked them. The id her gentlemen to voice their opinions were Messrs Robinson, Lord, Burrell and Cassidy. All the speakers also referred to the splendid qualities of Mr Burch (late proprietor of the Waikato Hotel). “For They are .lolly Good Fellows" was sung, and cheers were heartily given for these gentlemen by the large crowd present. Messrs Bawlinson (the new proprietor) end Peters 'of the Waikato Hotel ) were also presold, ‘.vv..k!n„ that, they had already made themselves popular. Both gentlemen, in replying, said they had a hard .job to follow in their predecessors’ footsteps, so far as popularity was concerned, but would do their best for everyone. Cheers were also given for tficse gentlemen, and the little testimony of goodwill closed.
