The Air Ministry Court of inquiry ■into Hie B3S disaster, reports that she broke in two owing to the failure ul the structure at the rear of the after engine cars, white subjected to contiol tests after the fracture. A fire in Hie forward portion was mainly responsible for the loss of life. The lire probably originated in a spark from the electric leads, which were fractured and spread owing to escaping petrol. The ignition of hvdrogen followed, causing a second explosion. Many new features were introduced in to the design, but i;n some eases there is lack of vital aerodynamical information regarding the eflect of modifications upon the strength ol Hie structure. The use of an extreme helm, with quick reversal during Hie tests, brought heavy force on the alter portion of the hull, owing lo (lie swing of the, slern quarter.
