That the Iwo nations should come to an arrangement wav as much in the interests of German' as France, but the French policy since the war had strengthened ihe German conviction that France was determined to crush Germany completely, and this explained the over-growing animosity' of a large nhmbcr of Germans towards France. This animosity would disappear I lie moment the French Government, resolved to modify its policy dircclcd against Germany.
