CONCERT AT RUAKURA

ENJOYABLE TIME SPENT A most enjoyable evening was spent by the returned soldiers and their friends in the lecture hall at Ihc Stale i Farm of Instruction at Ruakura. Eight j car-loads of people journeyed from Hamilton, and the programme consisted | of items given by the Orphans' Club orchestra, under the conductorsbip of Mr Apthorp. Misses Cora Melvin, llodfler, Panders. Humphrey, Messrs W. Jordan, W- J. H. Reynolds. (I. Stewart and C. Piillyn. All the items were encored, and appeared to be much en- | joyed. During the evening Mr P. Maddock referred to the generous car-owners who hail placed their cars at the disposal of the organisers. In this connection special mention was made of Messrs L. W. Favillc, 11. 11. Shaw, T. Thompson, F. Ilawke, 11. Revell, S. Tombs, Maclntyre, and !•'. Grant. Mr F. A. Burbush, District Repatriation Officer for the Auckland district, was present, and gave an interesting address on repatriation matters. At the conclusion of the concert Mr and Mrs Green invited the performers j and their friends to the homestead to ; supper, and quite a jolly time was spent- I Appropriate speeches were made, and one and all left feeling that true hos- j pi tali ty, for which Ruakura Farm is noted, was not lacking. The entertainment had been organiesd by the Y.M.C.A. through the efforts of Mr Carless, lion, secretary of that | institution's branch a| Ruakura. The secretary of Hie Returned Soldiers' Association (Mr P. Maddock) also lent valuable assistance.
