FUTURE OF RUSSIA

MAXIM GORKY'S VIEWS COMMUNISM WILL PASS. FOLLOWED BY A REPUBLIC. (Router). Received October 3. 10.40 p.m. LONDON, October 3. Maxim Gorky, interviewed by the Daily News, declared that communism would pass away in Russia, giving birth to a sort of Socialistic Republic or even a Democratic Uepublie similar to that of the United States, but a vast experiment is now being made in Russia and would have enormous influence upon the position of the proletariat. There was no chance whatever of a return of the Tzarist regime. People largely supported the Communist, Government because there was no alternative at present. It was possible, if the Soviet fell, that complete chaos would ensue. The opposition by the peasants was 100 great for the success of communism". The vast mass of Russian peasantry were a barrier to all progress. They were brulal, debased, and hardly human. There was a complete cleavage between the country and towns. Only the intellectual could save Russia. Gorky had been greatly impressed with the British trade agreement, from which he expected great things.
