LEAGUE OF NATIONS
CENTRAL EUROPEAN TANGLE. AN INTOLERABLE POSITION. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received September 21, 9.30 a.m. GENEVA, September 20. M. Jonescu (Austria) has arrived. 11l is reported that he intends to combat; Hungary’s admission to the League of (Nations on the ground that she has. not yet complied with the Treaty of Versailles. The Council of the League has decided to send back the entire dispute between the Poles and the Lithuanians to the Assembly. Mr Balfour, in seconding Mr Hyman’S' scheme that Vilna be administered, jointly, and also suggesting the division;; of Lithuania into cantonial and federated States, of which Vilna would be a separate canton with a central government at Kovno, stated that Poland regarded Hyman’s report as only productive of endless discussion, while: the ambitious General Zeligowsky,, whose allegiance was uncertain, re- : mained in possession of the disputed'! territory. It was intolerable for Europe that this ulcer should b”. allowed toi exist.
