EARLY SETTLERS’ WISHES. AN APPEAL TO THE CHURCHES. . To ministers of churches throughout New Zealand the Early Sol tiers'• and > 'Historical Association of Wellington has addressed the following circular letter: — “Last year, on behalf of the above association, wo took the liberty to ask Tour aid and assistance in furthering the celebration of Dominion hay, September 26, by associating with it a national thanksgiving day. We are deeply grateful for the response, to our request, and many of our members recall with great satisfaction the impressive sermons and references made in Urn different churches on Kepi ember 26 last lo the pioneers and early settlers. We again solicit your sympathy and cooperation on Sunday. September 25, the Sunday nearest Dominion Day. “The suggestion was made by one of our leading church dignitaries that Ups day should lie a national thanksgiving day In view of the sympathy and support! received last year, and opinions expressed by churchmen of all denominations we humbly venture to forward this suggestion to the churches throughout New Zealand, with (lie hope and trust that this should for all time bo observed as a national thanksgiving day.
