ARCHBISHOP MAWNIX
OATH OF ALLEGIANCE. NOT TO BE INSISTED UPON. FEDERAL CABINET'S REASONS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.)' Received July 29, 12.30 p.m. SYDNEY, July 29. Sir Joseph Cook, Acting-Premier, announced that the Federal Cabinet had decided not to adminster the oath 'of allegiance to Dr. Mannix upon landing. It was the Government's clear intention to have \lone so, and only after the gravest deliberation was the intention waived for the reason that they would not jeopardise the truce now in existence between the Imperial Government and the Irish leaders over Irish affairs. It is expected that the truce will be observed in Australia, and nothing done to prejudice a settlement.
