REPORTS OF COMMITTEES. The following reports were adopted at a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council on Wednesday:— Legal and Finance Committee. The Legal and Fianncc Committee recommended: —C. B. Smith, application for increase in rate of interest to G ]) er cent.: That application be granted, and that rate be 3 per cent. from Ist April till date from which Council paid the Bank 7 per cent. (Aug. Ist), and the rale from then be 0 per cent. —Allotments 0 and 10, Tc Rapa : That Mr Ircmongcr's lender of £5 for each section he accepted.—Town Clerk's report: Thai the balance available from £7OO loan. viz. £l4 9s, be transferred to the sinking fund account of the loan (see pari 5 Town Clerk's report).— Borough Engineer's car: That the question of the. purchase of a new car be left in the hands of the Mayor, Crs. Mason and Itollett.—Piping of stormwater drains: That the piping of the drain over Clover's property be reft in the hands of the borough engineer and chairman of works committee, and that the piping of the rest stand over till funds are available. —Metal at Thames: That no action be taken to acquire Ihc quarry; that Hie treasurer confer with Mr Coltman and submit a report showing reconciliation of figures not clear; that Mr Coltman be asked to be present at the next, meeting of the legal and finance coinmill.ee. Works Committee.

The Works Committee recommended:—Piping of slormwaler drains Hall street, Somerset street, Hincmoa street, and Greenwood street: That this question be referred to the legal and finance committee, as it necessitates the raising of a loan to do the work. —Extension of footpath Radnor street (Mr Dixon) : Thai this matter be left in the hands of the supervisor, with authority to do the work at once. —Carriageway Radnor street (Mr limes) : That Mr limes be. reminded Ihab'Counoil did what was asked in first instance, and that at Ihc present juncture it cannot see its way clear to do anything- further. — Drainage notices: That the work of serving drainage notices be continued. — Building permits: That an instruclion be issued to ihc building inspector that when a permit is issued the builder be required to lodge a deposit of £3 in the case of a house costing not more than £OOO and £5 in excess of £6OO, with the Council, to cover damages to footpaths, elc, caused by cartage over the footpaths, and that when work is completed the paths be set in order and the difference between cost of work and deposit lodged be refunded. — Frankton Salcyards and stock routes: That the stock routes in connection with Frankton yards be re-organised. Report of Inspector Lewis: —Mrs McGarriglc: The special committee appointed lo interview Mrs McGarriglc report thai they have no recommendation lo make. —-Miss Wralten's gale: The chairman works committee reported that the gate was hrwUcn by tiie borough contractor and had been given to replace it.
