PREMIERS IN ENGLAND
PREPARING TO LEAVE BUSINESS PRACTICALLY FINISHED. A HURRIED SUMMONS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received July 27, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, July 26. The Prime Ministers arc preparing to depart. General Smuts has hooked for home on Friday. Mr Smart! will accompany him. hut Mr Mentz contemplates a Scottish lour. General Smuts is prepared lo cancel his departure should the Imperial authorities invite him further to assist in the Irish question. Mr Meighcn will leave on August A , when (tic business of the Conference is expected to be compacted. The naval policy, air service and wireless scheme have still to be completed, although all require only the finishing touches. The discussion on the Pacific question has interrupted the continuity of the proceedings, but the committees are still keeping in touch with various questions. The discussion on the Pacific problems was continued at Downing Street this morning. Lord Curzon, Mr A. .T. Balfour, Mr W. Churchill, Mr E. S. Montague and Lieut.-Colonel Sir E. Hankey (Secretary to the Cabinet) attended, in addition to the Dominion representatives. At six o’clock this evening another meeting was hurriedly called, although most of the delegates were hooked for an official dinner at seven. The meeting ended at seven, all apparently being well pleased. No announcement was made, but while the Conference continued despatch boxes were delivered at the Cabinet rooms. It is understood that official cable messages are being exchanged continually between the- East and West, but the one most sought has not arrived, causing the deferment of a statement.
