A Paris cable announces that M. Andre Messanger, the composer, is seriously ill.
Mr F. C. Brown, chief Government poultry instructor, who has been at Ruakura in connection with the Farmers’ Farm School, returned to Wellington last evening. The death occurred yesterday of Mr Knox Gilmer, the wcll-jvnown dental surgeon of Wellington, 'and a son of the late Mr Hamilton Giimer. The deceased was born in Greymouth in IS7B, and married in 1906 a daughter of the late Mr R. J. Seddon. The deatli occurred at Rcmucra, Auckland, yesterday, of Mr J. T. Julian, at the age of 78. Mr Julian, who w»as a popular figure in the city, arrived there ’8 years ago from Brifain. He was born In Driffield, Yorkshire. Shortly after arriving in Auckland Mr Julian established himself as a builder and contractor,- and lie erected a number of fine buildings in the city and suburbs, and also in Hamilton. He w'as connected with several local bodies and sporting clubs. A message from New Plymouth states th’at Mr Orr Walker, S.M., of Taranaki, has been appointed Chief Justice of Samoa, in place of Mr Wilson, formerly the Auckland Magistrate, who is returning to New Zealand. Mr Walker will leave for Samoa next month. Mr Moslem, S.M., of Otago, will go to Taranaki. Mr L. B. Sicdle, one of the members of the Springbok team, who has been an inmate of a nursing home in Auckland, -suffering from an injury to the ieg, received in Sydney, has now arrived in Wellington. The injured limb has now almost recovered.
Sir William Fraser, M.L.C., who has been laid up for some time past with pneumonia, at a Wellington private hospital, was reported yesterday to be progressing very favourably. It is understood, indeed, that be is so far recovered that he will probably be leaving the hospital in the course of a few days.
