There was dull, muggy weather, and only a handful of spectators for Hie match, England v. South Australia. The wicket was good. Douglas 50 and Woolley 27 resumed their innings, Douglas steadily making 72, when lie lust Woolley, who had scored 30. He returned a hot one to Richardson, who- made an adroit catch. Woolley was halting Ility minutes, and hit three fours and one six. Douglas had a close shave when 84 off his pads. Wilson mis-hit Loveridge, and Ambler whipped his bails off. Douglas brought 600 up after seven hours’ batting. The captain reached his llnest century of the lour after 125 minutes’ baiting. Parkin was badly missed when eight. He then straight-drove Loveridge for four, but Hie next ball was caught and bowled by Loveridge after an ordinary innings. Dolphin suffered a similar fate to Parkin first ball. Howell reached six, and was clean bowled by Loveridge, Douglas being not out with 106. He was batting three hours, and hit eleven fours. England’s first innings totalled 627. South Australia, in their second innings, made a disastrous start. Smith, when 8, missing Howell, and the ball went off his pads on to the wicket. Fender relieved Waddington, and off ids third ball Richardson stepped out and missed, and was stumped after batting forty minutes. At the tea adjournment the score was two for 132—Harris 02, Rundell 40. Wilson did not resume, having Injured the muscles of his back. Harris and Rundell made a superb partnership, Harris making 84 in a hundred and fifty -two minutes, when he was bowled by Fender. He made delightful late cuts.
